This tour reveals the lesser-told side of the city’s history; one dominated not by great men but by inspirational women, who persevered within a bastion of patriarchy.
Quick Details
Whilst other tours might focus on the scandal and sensation of the illustrious Belle Epoque, this walking tour in Paris seeks to uncover the real lives of the women who played a role in it.
This tour angles the spotlight on some of the dramatic heroines of the Parisian stage, in both theatre and music.
Historically the career of actor was viewed with such disdain in France that they were denied most of their civil rights and women who took to the stage were considered as little more than glorified sex workers. However, as the public’s taste for entertainment grew and Paris gained its reputation as the capital of art and culture during the Belle Epoque, “les artistes” began to take centre stage.
The tour begins by the famous Comédie Française theatre and weaves through the historic theatre district of Paris, exploring beloved superstars like Edith Piaf and Sarah Bernhardt as well as some lesser known performers such as Mademoiselle Clairon and Loie Fuller.
There is also the option to go and see a one women theatre show along with this tour. Thanks to our partner – Theatre in Paris who work with Paris theatres to subtitle a selection of different productions, you can enjoy French shows just like a local.
OMG She’s Parisian runs on Thursday, Friday & Saturday nights at the BO theatre, right next to where we finish our tour! After years in the US, this born-and-bred Parisian left a successful albeit buttoned-up legal career to let her inner comedian roar. The hilarity ensues as she demonstrates just what it is to be a woman in Paris. The full price per person is $63 including the tour and the show.
